The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle is excited to welcome people from across Australia to the Hunter Valley this year for the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholic Council (NATSICC) Assembly.

Held every three years, the assembly is a significant gathering for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholics, along with others who walk beside them in faith and those who want to learn more through education and experiences.

Taking place from 29 September to 3 October, the event offers an opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the unique gifts that First Nations peoples bring to the Church.

Director of Mission & Evangelisation, James Camden says the Diocese is proud to host this important event.

“This Assembly will be a time of learning, celebration and unity, where traditional culture and Catholic faith can come together in a way that honours both,” he said.

“We know there is so much to learn from everyone who attends and the amazing line-up of presenters.

“My hope is that everyone leaves renewed in their faith, having experienced and learnt something inspiring, and more committed to reconciliation and justice.”

Over the course of five days, delegates will engage in keynote presentations, cultural workshops and liturgical celebrations.

Through these experiences, we will explore the interplay between ancient traditions and the Gospel, and how both can be enriched when held in respectful dialogue.
