Outreach
Outreach encourages us to intentionally build relationships beyond our communities as we respond to the gospel's invitation to live as missionary disciples.
What we do
Our communities are invited to share the life and love of God with everyone we encounter. We are actively called to be a part of the transformation of society for the greater good. We seek opportunities for mission in words and deeds.
Outreach encourages us to intentionally build relationships beyond our communities as we respond to the gospel’s invitation to live as missionary disciples.
Already, our parishes have engaged in works of outreach such as Community Kitchens at Taree, Forster, Toronto, Hamilton South and Newcastle. Our communities have engaged with broader civil society through the Hunter Community Alliance, working together for the common good with other faith communities, and not-for-profit organisations.
Our Diocese also promotes the good works of Caritas Australia, Catholic Mission, St Vincent de Paul Society, Stella Maris, and Aid to the Church in Need. Many of the volunteers for these local and global charitable works come from our grassroots communities.
Some parishes who are seeking the tools to move from maintenance to mission have partnered with renewal ministries such as Divine Renovation.
The Mission & Evangelisation Team is available to accompany Parish communities who are willing to explore what outreach looks like in this time and place. This conversation has the potential to bring together the worshipping community, parish schools, CatholicCare Social Services Hunter-Manning, and other agencies in reimagining a local community focused on outreach.
Together, we can reimagine what it means to be a Church that exists not for itself, but for the transformation of the world – a Church that listens, serves, and ultimately loves.
