Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney Cardinal George Pell hosted a press conference today, welcoming the announcement by Prime Minister Julia Gillard of a Royal Commission into child sexual abuse in the community.

“The Catholic Bishops of Australia have welcomed the Royal Commission which was announced by the Prime Minister last night.”

Cardinal Pell said “We think it’s an opportunity to help the victims, it’s an opportunity to clear the air, to separate fact from fiction”.
