When Claire’s name was announced as the recipient of the Magdalene Award in 2018, her first reaction was disbelief. Looking around the room, she saw women who had dedicated decades of their lives to faith, service, and their communities. Standing among them as a young adult felt both unexpected and deeply humbling. She had not imagined that her own small contributions to her Parish could hold the same significance as the work of those she admired.

Yet, in many ways, that is the very lesson the Magdalene Award brought into focus. Faithfulness in the small things truly matters. Every quiet act of service and every moment of simply showing up carries meaning. The award affirmed for Claire that her efforts are seen and valued. That realisation gave her a renewed sense of resilience and motivation, something she carries with her each day.

More than recognition, the award represented a milestone. It marked the beginning of Claire’s adult faith journey; one she knows will be long and filled with both blessings and challenges. The dedication and care she has shown to her Parish community did not go unnoticed. Knowing that her commitment is acknowledged encourages her to continue giving, growing, and deepening her faith.

Claire is also quick to recognise that her journey has never been hers alone. She is shaped by the example and support of the women who have guided her along the way, both those who came before her and those who continue to walk beside her.

“My award was for the female role models in my life: my grandmothers, my mum, my godmother, my Youth Coordinator at Blackbutt South, and the parishioners who supported me throughout my faith journey,” says Claire.

Receiving the Magdalene Award was, for Claire, both a privilege and a responsibility. She accepted it on behalf of the women who have shaped her and still carries with her a commitment to honour their influence by continuing to serve with the same love, dedication, and faithfulness they have so generously shown her.
