15 December, 2025As Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, I am proud to congratulate Cardinal Pell on his appointment, one which will see the church focus on improving the use of resources entrusted to us in line with Pope Francis’ commitment to serve the poor and disadvantaged.
Given his experience leading the Archdiocese of Sydney over the last twelve years, he is well placed to provide a significant contribution.
I’m sure I speak for the entire diocese when I wish Cardinal Pell all the very best in this new and challenging role. The work already done in the Commission of Cardinals to reform the Church’s administration will no doubt be given a new level of practicality by this overhaul of the financial arrangement.
Statement from Bishop Bill Wright,
Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle
