In 2018, the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle became the first diocese in Australia to establish a pastoral ministry to listen to, learn from, and journey with the LGBTIQ+ people who are members of the parishes and workers in the schools, welfare, and shared services within the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.
