Formation is an intentional, ongoing, and reflective process that focuses on the growth of individuals and communities from their lived experiences, in spiritual awareness, theological understanding, vocational motivation, and capabilities for mission and service in the Church and the world. All formation is mission-focused. We share the responsibility to continue learning – both for our own personal growth in faith and in order to be able to respond with others to the promptings of God’s Holy Spirit.

Formation in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle can be locally focussed and led by a parish priest and their parish team or provided by the Mission & Evangelisation team and made accessible to all. Some examples include the Called & Gifted Discernment Program, the aMeN caMiNo, the Christian Initiation Forum, the Graduate Certificate in Mission and Culture, Art & Spirituality Workshops, worship and liturgy, youth ministry and countless opportunities to assist those who share their faith and the churches’ teaching with students in our state schools. Formation meets people where they’re at. It may be an academic course, or a bespoke program written to meet the needs of a local parish looking to deepen their journey of faith. The Liturgical seasons also provide us with wonderful opportunities to learn more about our faith together.
