All aboard for Tim Fischer's book launch
The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle is pleased to announce that Former Deputy Prime Minister, Tim Fischer AC, will visit the Hunter this Thursday 28 November to launch his latest book, Holy See, Unholy Me, during a luncheon at the Victor Peters Suite, Newcastle West from 12pm.
All are welcome to the luncheon to hear Mr Fischer speak about his book which documents his three years in Rome as the first resident Australian Ambassador to the Holy See in Vatican City, Rome. Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to purchase a copy of his book and have it signed.
Mr Fischer is looking forward to his Newcastle visit and says it’s his first since returning from Rome and completing his Ambassadorial posting.“I will arrive by train at Hamilton at 10.45am, not proceeding to the main station for fear the tracks are already ripped up,” Mr Fischer quipped.
Manager for Fundraising and Donor Relations at the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, Mark Lees, organised for Mr Fischer to launch his book to the diocesan community and is thrilled to welcome him to Newcastle.
“Mr Fischer’s political career, Ambassadorial posting, passion for all things rail and advocacy work make him a wonderfully engaging and interesting speaker,” Mr Lees said. “The diocese is very grateful to be able to welcome him to our region to share some of his favourite anecdotes.”
Mr Fischer will give an insider’s view of life in the Vatican State, including his key role in the canonisation of Australia’s first saint, Mary of the Cross MacKillop.
Another topic Mr Fischer will discuss is Pope Benedict XVI’s resignation.
“It was a brilliant move ushering in the Papacy of an Argentinian, a Jesuit and much more in Pope Francis, who is spearheading renewal and step by step change,” Mr Fischer said.
A special guest at the launch will be Newcastle resident Cardinal Edward Cassidy who served in the Vatican as the President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity (1989 – 2001), as well as serving the Church around the world including South Africa, China and Bangladesh.
The luncheon will take place from 12pm at the Victor Peters Suite, Newcastle West on Thursday 28 November. Mr Fischer promises that one lucky book purchaser will also walk away with some Rome metro tickets and a Leonardo Express ticket for travel in from Rome Airport.
Mr Fischer will also visit Kurri Kurri and Singleton libraries later on the same day.
