The Chisholm region houses many parishes, including St Joseph's at East Maitland, which was the first church built north of Sydney.
Many young families have settled into this area and the region has a strong agricultural base. The Hunter River provides a strong focus here, and is incorporated into the crest for the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.
