Deaneries

The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle is divided into 4 deaneries, which are a joining together of neighbourhood pastoral regions.

Each deanery is headed by a priest (known as a "dean") who has been appointed by the Bishop. A dean has a number of roles within their assigned region, including fostering support between parishes, sharing resources within the deanery and coordinating pastoral activity.
