Spirituality & Faith

Faith is the heart of the life and mission of the Catholic Church.

Our faith is in God who creates us in God’s image and breathes into us the breath of God’s life, and who chooses to be with us in and through Jesus who shows us the way to fullness of life.

Faith is a way of life that is freely chosen; a way of living in love with God, with all others and with creation.

Spirituality is an awareness that we live each moment in the presence of God. It is a desire to listen constantly for God’s words so that we can discern how to respond to the realities of our daily life in ways that enable us to live true to the image in which we were created: as signs of God’s loving presence to others and for the world.

Faith and spirituality are nurtured by community life, prayer and liturgy, good works and reflective living.

The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle offers a variety of adult faith formation experiences to assist people in their personal faith journey and as a preparation for ministry.

Christ Has No Body

Christ has no body but yours
No hands, no feet on earth but yours
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world
Christ has no body now on earth but yours

Teresa of Avila (1515–1582)
